ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Opened in 1988, Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School is located in the City of Vanier. The school offers a full academic and extracurricular program for our Grade 7-8 students and is dedicated to the school philosophy at JVC -"A Place For Everyone."

The Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School Council functions as an advisory body to the school principal and, on occasion, to the Board. The Council provides advice on a variety of issues and reflects the school community in composition and function.Meetings are held every four to six weeks.

Our Belief

The Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School community believes that a Catholic school is one in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are integrated into the day-to-day curriculum and social fabric of school life. The strength of our school comes from the Catholic faith that the staff, students and community share. We aspire to have our students develop a way of living that embodies the life of Jesus Christ.

The staff and students of Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate their Catholic faith. These opportunities include: school-wide and classroom liturgies, retreats, fundraising for charities and community service.


Our Partners

Fr. Jose Serafin is invited to visit the school regularly and to participate in liturgical celebrations. The Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School community has a strong partnership with parish, school and home. Our parish representative serves as the liaison with our school and our parish.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW

Enriching the lives of our students and providing them with a safe and comforting environment is a major goal at Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School. Through our many activities in the areas of sports, leadership, development and student government, the students are given the opportunity to develop knowledge, confidence and cooperative skills, which are very much needed in today's world. The future of Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School will see these opportunities enhanced and broadened, and the ties with our community strengthened. This will give our students even greater exposure to life experiences, providing them with opportunities for growth in all areas of their development.


    COMMUNITY RELATIONS

    We believe our school should be at the centre of community activities. A focal point of the community, Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School is currently running at 86% capacity, with activities scheduled weeknights and on many weekends.

    School Achievement

    The students at Jean Vanier Catholic have the opportunity to participate in a variety of grades 7 and 8 extracurricular activities, ranging from leadership programs, intramurals,choir, and writing clubs, to Board-wide competitive sports programs throughout the school year. We have expanded our school leadership opportunities with the creation of the JVC Spirit Club, an Athletic Association and an expanded role for the Environment Club. Our school newspaper club and yearbook club provide other opportunities for our students.
